Local 3 apprentices receive a high level, classroom education and hands on training from our qualified instructors as well as on the job field experience. It is the goal of our apprenticeship program to equip each student with the knowledge and skills necessary to advance our industry, our membership, and our organization.
In the classroom, all students will have an opportunity to learn both the latest techniques and the time proven methods of our industry through the employment of: computer based learning; hands on practice; theory based lessons; thermodynamic experiments; and other innovative learning experiences. Safety is a critical focus and students will learn how to properly recognize and address hazards in the work place in the OSHA class. Other certification courses include Firestop Technician and Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA).
Once hired by one of our contractors, apprentices receive on the job training. This field experience allows the apprentice the opportunity to encounter real world construction situations under the guidance and training of a certified journeyperson.
The apprenticeship is four years in length in which each apprentice is required to complete a minimum of 144 classroom hours as well as 1600 hours of on the job training in order to advance to the next level of apprenticeship. As a First Year Apprentice, you will earn 50% of the full journeyperson wage. Second Year pay then increases to 60%, Third Year to 70%, and Fourth Year apprentices earn 80% of the full wage. All members of the Heat and Frost Insulators enjoy the benefits of health insurance and a pension with First Year Apprentices receiving those benefits once they have accumulated 288 work hours.
